چکیده

This paper summarizes the theoretical background that is used in several applications listed in the sibling conference paper [1]. We investigate object simplification methods based on Centroidal Voronoi Tesselation (CVT) that share the possibility of great speed-ups in various scenarios. We propose Constrained CVT to sample points from the object boundary and the Region-based CVT to be able to subsample lower dimensional objects, as well. Moreover we introduce custom weight functions based on object properties. Thus, we can be more specific on what are the important parts of the object to be subsampled.

A Novel Subsampling Method for 3D Multimodality Medical Image Registration Based on Mutual Information

Mutual information (MI) is a widely used similarity metric for multimodality image registration. However, it involves an extremely high computational time especially when it is applied to volume images. Moreover, its robustness is affected by existence of local maxima. The multi-resolution pyramid approaches have been proposed to speed up the registration process and increase the accuracy of th...

Fast and Accurate Global Motion Estimation by Combining Pixel Subsampling and Outlier Rejection

Tools based on global motion estimation (GME) have been adopted by the MPEG−4 standard. Estimating global motion parameters tends to be computationally intensive, due to the involvement of all the pixels in the calculation. If real time video coding using GME is required, then fast and accurate GME techniques are critical. Our previous work has shown that fast GME could be achieved by choosing ...

Spatially adaptive subsampling of image sequences

In a spatially adaptive subsampling scheme, the subsampling lattice is adapted to the local spatial frequency content of an image sequence. In this paper, we use rate-distortion theory to show that spatially adaptive subsampling gives a better performance than subsampling with a fixed sampling lattice. A new algorithm that optimally assigns sampling lattices to different parts of the image is p...

Subsampling Model Selection in Neural Networks for Nonlinear Time Series Analysis

In this paper, the subsampling method is applied to the problem of model selection in neural networks for non linear time series data. A complete strategy, which combines a set of graphical, exploratory and inferential statistical tools, is proposed to select the topology of a neural network model. The procedure allows to choose the number and the type of inputs (by using a formal test procedur...

NYTRO: When Subsampling Meets Early Stopping

Early stopping is a well known approach to reduce the time complexity for performing training and model selection of large scale learning machines. On the other hand, memory/space (rather than time) complexity is the main constraint in many applications, and randomized subsampling techniques have been proposed to tackle this issue. In this paper we ask whether early stopping and subsampling ide...
